with regard to נ’לב’ע I would suggest posting on the main JewishGen Discussion Group.

Attached is a screenshot of my great-grandfather's headstone.  I can make out some of the basics but, as I delve deeper into the family history, the details are becoming more important.

ר׳ יעקב ב’ר הענאך נ’לב’ע
כ׳ט טבת ת’ש’א ת׳נ׳צ׳ב׳ה׳

What I've managed to make out is:

Here lies
Mr. Jacob, son of Mr. Hanoch (Henry) ???
29 Tevet 5701 "May his soul be bound up..."

What does the notation at the end of the 2nd line mean?   I assume, "lev" refers to "heart" but the fuller meaning eludes me.   I've looked at several guides and it might refer to some laudable quality – like "good hearted" – can't find anything exactly like this.  And does the phrase refer to Yakov or Hanoch?   I'm guessing it refers to Yakov but I've seen other instances when it refers to the father.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Lee Jaffe
