Of course, Ireland has only been a separate state since 1926.

Scotland has not been a separate state since 1601 although the Scottish
National Party would like to change that.

Must comment on Avrama Gingold's piece on Irish Jews - which was excellent.
Only quibble: she says that Ireland was the only country in Europe with no
state-sanctioned anti-Semitism. Not so - add Scotland to the very short,
but honourable list.
