Re: Tevl #general

My own Hebrew name is Tuvya Melech. I was named for my great grandmother
Toybe Mayte. Rev. So-and-so, the local mohel and shochet, was consulted as
to what my name should be. He decreed Tevel Melech. I have a letter in
Yiddish that relates the conversation with the gentleman. I always believed
that Tevya was the a formal version of Tevel.

When I went to Hebrew School, where we had to be called by our Hebrew names,
the Rabbi let me know that Tevya was really Tuvya, and so Tuvya it has
remained.
