Is there any restriction about copying down the info
from the tombstone?

A photographer friend >from New Orleans went to a local cemetery here in Providence to take pictures, and was told by a guard not to photograph any gravestone inscriptions. Our friend remarked to us that in New Orleans gravestone inscriptions are considered to be the private property of the family and may not be photographed without permission.
If anyone has had any experience with such restrictions, I would be interested to know about it. I have no idea how reliable our friend's information is.
