As far as I know Walter Matthau real name was Matuszewski and not Mat................. ! ;-) Obviously, as Tim Baker mentioned, Matthau made a joke making up a non-sense longish name. I personally have never seen this joke-name anywhere. But the story by itself is quite interesting!
