Some early civil records in Australia were derived >from registers held by

Sometimes male birth dates are confused with the dates of circumcision
(normally on the 8th day), as occasionally female birth dates were (with
the 30th day), when they were named in the synagogue.
You are right in cautioning people not to accept dates, ages, etc without
question or attempting to verify them.
