Having grown up in the Northeast and learning not only Yiddish words with a
certain dialect, but also Jewish words, moving later to the Midwest, and
eventually to the South, there are definite pronunciation differences. The
other difference I have noticed is that the different sects of Judaism also
use different pronunciations. My family was conservative when I was growing
up and as I understand it, the pronunciations that I grew up with were
"Ashkenazic." Here in the South my family belongs to a Chasidic
congregation and I can't understand a word the Rabbi says!
