Does anyone have information on the now defunct Odessa Mutual Relief
Association of Brooklyn, NY and can tell me if the Association is the
same as the Odessa Society (Washington Cemetery)? I am looking for
anyone who may have information on the membership circa 1947-48 or even
an existing list of members. Searching in particular for references to
my maternal grandparents (Sam and Sarah YARESHEFSKY) who are both buried
in the Odessa Society section of Washington Cemetery.
This is the name of the landsmannshaft my ggf was part of, but I have no
idea if they're related. In 1994, I posted this, about the Odessa Mutual
Relief Association,to JewishGen:

My ggf, Peter Lieberman, apparently founded this group in Odessa. In
1888, he and, I'm told, the others in this group immigrated together,
living near each other on the Lower East Side (my family lived at 87
Chrystie St. in both 1910 and 1920). They purchased a cemetery plot
together, and he and his wife are buried there.

By the time the entrance posts to the plot was erected, in 1930, they
lived in Brooklyn.

My guess is that there were many such landsmannshaften, so that having
more than one for immigrants >from Odessa is not unlikely. Again, in '94,
I posted a listing of the members listed on the posts at the entrance to
their plot in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Queens, NY:

The society was legally established in NY 14 Feb 1892. Attempts I made to
get more info about it failed, but many more people are part of JewishGen
now, so perhaps you'll have better luck!
