Since I sent in my last message about the sculptor Mark Antokolsky, I
have learned a tiny bit more about the Antokolsky family. But for now I
want to correct two statements I made on February 21, 2001, which my
Antokolsky correspondents have told me were incorrect.
I had said that Dan Rottenberg in his "Finding our Fathers" indicated
that there are Antokolsky family records at the Central Archives in
Jerusalem. But Paul Antokolsky, great-grandson of one of Mark's brothers,
told me that the only record there is a picture of the sculptor's former
residence in Vilna.
Also, Jean Perkin, another of my correspondents told me this morning
that she had examined marriage registrations at a "family records center"
(FHC?) and discovered that Claude Montefiore had married married a
"Therese," a daughter of a Polish rabbi. So it seems that Claude had not
married a daughter of Mark Antokolsky, as Hirsz Abramowicz said on p. 255
of his "Profiles of a Lost World," and as I had repeated.
I thought I'd better inform the group of these two corrections in case
someone someday does a search through the Discussion Group Archives for
either "Montefiore" or "Antokolsky" and relies on my mistakes.
