Need ideas on London Research #general

I need some help/advice as to where to look for records. My g. grandfather
left Wysokie-Mazovieckie, Poland at about age 8 and went to live with a
family in London, England. He then immigrated to the US and married in NY
around 1908. Somewhere along those lines his name changed >from Benzion
SHABBAS to Barnett SHAPIRO. In London he apprenticed to be a baker. He was
in London >from about 1890-1902. I would imagine that he had to have
attended school somewhere, be on a census somewhere, or there should have
been some kind of record of him coming into the UK. He did speak fluent
Hebrew so we think that either he attended a Jewish school or was with a
Jewish family. Any ideas as to where I could search for records?
