Someone had written in earlier in the summer questioning pregnant women
and infants traveling to America and asserted that children under 18
months were not permitted.
While there were some anecdotal replies I decided to do a quick search
of the Ellis Island Data Base using the Moorse program. On the first
letter "S" for the last name and age 0 to 1 I got no less than over
37,000 names -- and that was just one letter of the alphabet. Hence I
think it is pretty safe to say immigrant with infants was not all that
uncommon through Ellis Island. What's more I scanned the names on the
first page and saw many >from 1900 or earlier.
Hope that helps in the answer to the question.
