Re: Holocaust era insurance policies #austria-czech

Tomer Brunner told us about this website:
and suggested contacting Generali in Israel.

I contacted Generali in Trieste re my Viennese uncle's confirmed insurance
policy. At first they denied any evidence of relationship and then they wrote
that as he was married to my mother's sister who predeceased him, I was not
eligible as I was not in the direct line according to Austrian law. So there
you are. The money remains where it is, as there are no direct descendants - my
uncle and aunt were childless. If ever there was a case for latitude, this is
it. By the way these problems are best aired on a dedicated discussion group:

I doubt there is much in this insurance policy [my uncle was a junior doctor in
Vienna at the time, who then started again in the USA], but it was a matter of
principle. I also found my great-uncle's name on the Austrian Postsparkasse
account list [PSK]. I got a token 100 Euro for that plundered account. When it
was handed over to me in person, I burst into tears - Leo WOTTITZ had died in
Theresienstadt and although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, I could
"hear" his sarcastic comments. I recently found his brother Ernst had another
obscure Austrian Postsparkasse Overseas account. I expect I will get enough for
"wurstl", when that finally is settled. The link to these archived PSK accounts
is on our own website: Beginners Guide to Austrian-Jewish genealogy:

H. Postsparkasse Report

The Austrian Postsparkasse bank has published a report on assets held by Jewish
Austrians that were taken by the Nazis. The entire list of account-holders is
available on the web at
(archived version).

BTW I know of others who have received unexpected *large* windfalls - so don't
give up, but join h-justice for advice >from those who have first-hand
