Visit to Silesia #general
This past summer, my sister Naomi and I traveled to Silesia (formerly
eastern Germany, now western Poland) to follow in the footsteps of our
great-grandfather David Tockuss, professional chocolate maker and amateur
artist. We visited the city of Wroclaw (formerly Breslau) where he lived,
the tiny town where he was born, and the mountains where he went in the
summer to paint. Some of our success on this trip is directly
attributable to help I received through JewishGen.org.
My sister is a radio reporter, and her saga of our trip aired on the Savvy
Traveler radio program on National Public Radio this weekend.
The story is available on the show's website,
http://www.savvytraveler.org . Click on The Story of the Week. The website
also has some photos of our trip.
