I am using both surname books published by Alexander Bieder which list
ZARCHIN in Poland and ZARCHIN/ZARKHIN in Russia and that these names are
deiived >from different paths. I know for a fact that these two names are
from the same family.
I used pre-WWI maps to note that Riga and Warsaw were inside Russia at that

My question is that I know my family is >from Minsk->Bobroisk->outlying
shteltlach, so how was it possible for my g-g-father to travel to Warsaw for
a passport and my g-father to Riga when I have hard documentation that they
were >from the above mentioned area?

Also, ZARCHIN is turning up in Polish records according to JRI-Poland.

Any thoughts?
