Merthyr Tydfil information on Jewish Communities and Records - UK (JCR-UK) and the GOODMAN family #general

Laurence Harris <Laurence@...>

There is a lot of fascinating and useful information about the Merthyr
Tydfil Jewish Community on the Jewish Communities and Records - UK
(JCR-UK) website (a joint project of The Jewish Genealogical Society of
Great Britain and JewishGen).

The main JCR-UK website address is

The Merthyr Tydfil page is
which then links to other web pages for this community such as
Congregation Data, School Registers, lists of Naturalised citizens,
photographs, Personal Encounters/recollections and Newspapers (various
snippets >from the Merthyr Express).

There are pictures of the Merthyr cemetery at
and a wonderful and moving poem about the cemetery which you can listen
to in both English and Welsh. It is delivered using Real streaming
audio/video - just remember to click the forward arrow play button. You
will need Real software which many PCs already have. It does work
quicker with a fast communications line.

Many of the Merthyr burials are now on JOWBR. With regard to the recent
GOODMAN query, searching on this name in the Wales region of JOWBR at
gives the records of 10 persons with surname GOODMAN buried in Merthyr.

A list of Jewish persons in the Welsh Census returns for 1851 & 1891 is
searchable at
This gives 23 GOODMANs including a Myer GOODMAN.

There are many other communities like Merthyr featured on JCR-UK, so do
check JCR-UK site if you have UK ancestors. We are confident that the
number of community pages and their genealogical content will continue
to grow.

We are currently working on a fully searchable and integrated database
(an All-UK database) for JCR-UK data ... Watch this space!!!
