My brother-in-law was Velvel but his English name was Melvin. Often there is
no correlation between the two.

I had to put my two-penny-worth in .. no-one mentioned that the names
Velvel and Wolf were also changed to Victor in English. This was how my
English uncle (of Polish origin) came to be called Victor.
