Rabbi Mordechai ZACKHEIM-Roshenoi/Pinsk #general
ben-ari <yrcdi@...>
I've posted before about my ggreatuncle's diary in which he mentions a
relative Rabbi Mordechai of Rushenoi, who was the AB"D (head of the Rabbinical court) in Pinsk. I've come to the conclusion that this Rabbi was Rabbi Mordechai ZACKHEIM who served in the above position in Pinsk from 1843-till his death in 1853. (according to "Scattered Seeds"). I would be happy to find anyone who has more knowledge of this R' Mordechai's personal and family life. The questions are: Our gggrandmother was said to have been brought up in his home. She was also supposed to be from the family of R' Chaim of Volozhin. As we understand she was orphanedat a young age. Since there are two personalities amongst the descendants of R' Chaim of Volozhin who died young each leaving behind a young daughter, did/wouldv'e R' Mordechai ZACKHEIM take in this girl into his home, was he that close to the Volozhin "house"? I understand, >from M. Zinovitz' "Etz Chaim" that R' Mordechai Zackheim was on the "board" of the Yeshiva in Volozhin. I saw that there were Zackheim's in Vilna. Was there a family connection between the Zackheims and the Gaon? There is a family "legend" that we are related also to the GR"A. I would appreciate hearing >from anyone having information about the above.
