I wanted to thank all those who responded to my inquiry about a death
certificate coded in the index as "Out of City" with a certificate
number that didn't match the time of year that the death occurred.
It turns out that this applies when someone died out of the city and was
brought back to the city for burial. The "certificate number" is a code for
where the death occurred. In my case, the code "28" means that he died in
New Jersey. Other codes would designate different places. New Jersey, in
this case, would be where I would go for the actual death certificate.
Thanks for the help.
