Although I don't know anything about Des Moines, I was told by an Erie County, NY
clerk that during the 1930's, each county's naturalization records were collected
at the county hall and indexed-part of the depression era work. So I would say
try your county hall.
And at Erie County Hall, many of the clerks who do not handle the naturalization
records do not know they are there-so ask around if you get a 'don't know of any'
The exception, of course, is NYC, where there are many people going between
counties (boroughs) so that the records were collected at NARA.
