I just learned >from Ellis Island records that my great-grandmother's
(Sofie) maiden name was something like Berkowits and her father's names
may have been Ben or Bendict. >from Braila. The ship log had something like
Braila, Shada, Ray??? 230. Can someone tell me what this might mean.

Sofie married Joseph Schwartz, came to Ellis Island in 1909 and settled in
Philadelphia. (I'll also search on JewishGen)

Any connections or information?
