I want to thank everyone for their comments on this subject, I feel personally that it is important to record relationships that are marriages in all but name even if there are no children involved. The partners do effectively become part of each others families, and imagine future generations looking at photos asking "Who's that with Aunt/Uncle ....?" and no-one knowing even if they had spent 20 or more years together. I will be looking at changing the software I use to one that allows me to add "partners".
