I guess at some point you provide help for people because you can and because it is a good or "right" (if you will) thing to do. My experience has been to nearly always have rec'd acknowledgement. But it wouldn't matter if I did or didn't. People always respond to my calls for assistance and that is what matters. The one good person makes up for all of those with bad manners.
