In 1893, in Chicago, my great grandparents, first cousins,
married legally. that they were first cousins is family
knowledge, and has not been confirmed by my research.
However, what looks likely is that the bride lied about her
parents' names in order to obtain this legal marriage. Her
marriage certificate records her maiden name as ROSENBERG,
when both family knowledge, and my own research quite
clearly confirm that she was born DROZDOWITZ and married a
DROZDOWITZ. This deception on the marriage certificate
seems to indicate that marriage between first cousins was
not allowed in Illinois at the time.
