Announcing a Newly-Formed JGS in California #general

jan meisels allen <janmallen@...>

Dear Jewish Genners:

A new JGS has been formed in the Conejo Valley and Ventura County (and
surrounding areas) located in California- known as the Jewish Genealogical
Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County -JGSCV- for short. For
those not familiar with the area, it has one of the largest-growing and
flourishing Jewish populations in the west, estimated at over 10,000 Jews
residing here. The Conejo Valley starts just west of the boundary line of
the City of Los Angeles and extends into the eastern part of Ventura County;
and all of Ventura County, which is the California County between Los
Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties.

An organizing committee of local, accomplished, Jewish genealogists has been
meeting since May and has organized, and founded the new JGS. We welcome
anyone interested in Jewish genealogy to attend our meetings and to join the
new society.

Four exciting programs are planned for the remainder of the year. The first
program meeting is scheduled for September 25 >from 2-4 pm- watch for the
announcement posted on the JewishGen Discussion Group shortly! All four
meetings are being held at Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks, CA which is
generously co-sponsoring our initial four programs to help launch this new
organization. While there is no fee to attend the meetings, membership dues
are $25 single, $30 for a family of two residing in the same household,
enabling us to present programs and develop a library of books, maps and
journals related to Jewish genealogy. Those joining the JGS now, will have
their membership dues apply through the end of 2006.

Anyone interested in learning more about the JGSCV and to be placed on the
e-mail list for future meeting information, please contact Jan Meisels
Allen, at janmallen@....
