Shari Kantrow asked how to find her grandfather's birth town. There is a wonderful
source I've used when i had no other place to go........the Old Men's draft - in
1942 all men born between 1877 and 1897 had to register. They completed these
draft cards, which asked for place of birth. The registrations are in the local
NARA (ie: Massachusetts for Boston, NYC for NY) and are indexed by county (ie:
Bronx, Brooklyn), then by surname. When I use this resource, I also look around
for relatives of the same surname.
Happy Hunting!
