This is mostly true. My wife is a Bulgarian Jew (emmigrated to Israel where I met
and married her). I learned the outline of the story >from her, but there is a book
"Beyond Hitler's Grasp" by Michael Bar-Zohar (former MK, Professor, Historian)
documenting this amazing event. You can also find more by searching the internet
for "Bulgaria Jews." The Communist Regime produced a film about the rescue which
claimed all the credit, but most accounts give credit to the Bulgarian Church's
Primate (Metropolitan Stefan), Dimiter Peshev (the Parliament Deputy Speaker), the
people of Bulgaria, and Tsar Boris III.

It is an asounding story of a nation that did not bend to Hitler's vision.
