Thank you very much to all those who responded to my request for help regarding what sort of information could be found on a patent. I received copies of the patents filed by David Misell and there was no biographical information but one of them started off "Be it known that I, David Misell, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of New York ..." This is the confirmation I was seeking regarding his origins.
