Monogenetic (unique) surnames #general

Roger Lustig <julierog@...>

Dear friends:

The response to my query about surnames belonging to just one family has
been wonderful.

To those who submitted names: please understand that I'm not going to be
able to respond individually. At the moment I'm only responding when
some clarification is needed. I'll be posting a list soon.

To those interested in submitting names: in order to make things clear
from the start, please use something like one of the following:
"As far as I know, all Jewish families in the world that have the
surname [XYZ] are descended >from <name> [XYZ] of <place name>."

"As far as I know, all Jewish families with the surname [ABC], that
lived in <region> before <date>, are descended >from <name> [ABC] of
<place name>."

"As far as I know, all Jewish families in the world that have the
surname [PQR] are >from the town of <town name> in <region>."

Any further information about the original holder of the surname, such
as dates--exact or approximate--are welcome, of course.

Also, let's restrict ourselves to surnames adopted before 1900.

Finally, please don't post your submissions to the discussion group.
I'll do my best to get everyone's suggestions onto the list, or to get
back to you in some other way.

Thank you!
