Michael Bernet was correct in stating that pupik / pipik is the name for chicken (or goose) gizzard. This is the actual translation of the word. My mother used to make a "rosselle ( stew ) of chicken pipiklech (gizzards) gergalech ( necks) and hartselech (hearts) .
Full disclosure: I declared it was an umbilicus. Weinreich gives both terms as translations. In this case I earned undeserved praise in the citation. Usually I get misquoted and someone else's erroneous statement is hauled out to trump me.
Important: make sure you're citing the correct citation for the correct person, whether you come to bury Caesar or to praise her.
