The New York State Archives in Albany has ledgers for the prisons.
Google for there web site.

Following is >from notes in my file.

Residence: >from April 1899 until June 1906 Emanuel spent time in Elmira
and Auburn prisons for forgery.
The State Archives is a great place to work. The people are friendly and
helpful.
