Research at HUC Klau Library NYC #general

For those of you interested in conducting research in Jewish newspapers on
microfilm at HUC [Hebrew Union College] Klau Library while attending the
IAJGS conference in New York in August, I would encourage you to research
instead either at the Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library --
as suggested in an earlier posting -- or at the American Jewish Historical
Society Archives held at the Center for Jewish History at 15 West 16th
Street. When I visited the HUC Klau Library in April to conduct research, I
was told that only HUC students or NYU [New York University] students were
allowed access to library materials. Upon returning home I wrote to the Klau
Library staff to inquire if there were any circumstances under which
exceptions might be made to this policy. I received a kind response >from one
of the librarians who explained that the Klau Library was not the best place
to work with microfilmed records as it had only one microfilm reader -- and
it was twenty-seven years old. He recommended that I use Inter-Library Loan
to borrow the microfilmed materials in which I was interested.
