My elusive relative was deported >from NY to Cherbourg on the SS Philadelphia in June 1914. He was deemed physically unfit. I've been unable to find a trace of him since. I contacted the French archives but they don't have passenger records but said that the shipping lines kept their own.
My question: Does anyone know where the records for the American Line are kept or even if they survived? I'm really trying to find out what happened to him after he was returned to Cherbourg.
