Need help with a lookup in 1862 through 1868 New York City directories for the Surname TOBIAS. The birth given name is Mark J. TOBIAS which was used at least until his Civil War discharge in 1862. By 1876, it became Joseph M(arks) TOBIAS.
Mr. TOBIAS was probably a printer/ printer's apprentice or possible a clothing merchant. He was born either in 1844 (per Civil War pension applications to obtain higher benefit) or 1846 (1876 marriage license and census data).
