Many thanks for all of the replies, but I must apologise for misleading
everyone. Having done endless searches for Mr Abramovitz, My Father now
tells me he has made a mistake, and he has got the wrong man. It turns out
that he got confused with another Emanuel, who married Minnies Sister. As my
Father is an old man, and it is not too often you get two Emanuels marrying
two sisters, I will excuse his memory lapse and try again.
So here goes for a second try -
Lazarus and Rachel Blumberg had a daughter called Rebecca, who married a
gentleman called Matthew Gablenopski. It appears that Matthew later changed
his name to Emanuel Matthews, and can be found in the 1901 census, living
with his Mother and Father-in-Law, and his profession is listed as a
Painter. This is the gentleman my father claims was a famous artist. I will
do some searches on google, but if anyone has heard of this fellow, please
let me know. As this man is listed as an artist in the census, I am now a
little more inclined to believe he could be right, and I am sure he would
enjoy the opportunity to tell me "I told you so".
Again, my apologies to those who tried to search on my behalf, and thanks
for all your efforts.
