My mother tells me that her grandmother once whopped Teddy Roosevelt (before
his presidency) with her purse because he said or did something that made
her upset and she was arrested for this. She and her husband owned a saloon
in the Lower East Side.

Can anyone suggest to me how I can further research this tidbit of family
lore and see how true and untrue it is.
