There is no mention of a *Gwardia* Ludowa. Maybe the terms Armia Ludowa and Gwardia Ludowa basically refer to the same organization: the people's *guard* or army, the term "guard" (gwardia) being very popular with militant communists at that time.
According to Yad Vashem's "Encyclopedia of the Holocaust," in January 1944, the Polish National Council [a Communist organization linked to the Polish Workers' Party (PPN), itself sanctioned by Stalin] ordered the Gwardia Ludowa (Home Guard) to change its name to Armia Ludowa (People's Army).
