In some Genealogy by DNA circles, the claim has been made that
"in Roman times the position of Kohen Gadol was for sale," and
furthermore, that a non-kohen may have purchased the position
at some point. Is anyone aware of any evidence for such
assertions? Could these claims be purely speculative; was there
in fact a period in our history when this _could_have_ happened?
