Re: The Free Genealogy Software PhpGedView #general
How I work is like this:
I use Family Tree MAker since the last winter to manage my family
tree. Before that I used PAF which is a free software tool made for
the mormons and which can be donwloaded >from their website. I consider
it as a great tool. It supports Hebrew so I still use it for my Hebrew
family tree. FOr my Dutch family tree I use Family Tree Maker 2006.
For my website I use Genmod which is a offshoot project >from the
original PHPgedview developers.
It is indeed a great tool, everyone who has the priviliges to do so,
can after logging in, add and update his/her information to the family
tree. If the administrator approves the changes, it will be possible
to see them.
You have also the option to donwload reports, to look at a dynamic
timeline (for example this http://www.gershon-lehrer.be/FmT/genmod/timeline.
php?pids%5B0%5D=3DI1598&newpid=3DI3233) or http://tinyurl.com/2w8ycj
Every time someone changes something in the online family tree, I
manually check it and apply those changes to my family tree maker
I still use PAF to export my files because in Family Tree maker I did
not find yet an option to select people whom I would like to export
and whom I don't want to export. PAF has a veyr advanced tool to
I plan to add another family tree tool to place on my website which
will be less dynamic and much simpler then genmod in addition to the
dynamic genmod tool for the reason that genmod may slow down sometimes
my website and visitors of my website will not see what they want to
see, so I will you use probably Retrospect whic is a very simple and
easy to use system with much less options then genmod or phpgedview
but still nice. This program can be found here
