I'm trying to figure out the name of the town where my grandmother was born.
It's been variously communicated to me as "Pohshnicci" or "Poskevnitze,"
There are several villages named Pokrzywnica in Poland
(http://mapa.szukacz.pl/).
At least two of them are located in the area that would fit the description
of being "in Russian Poland near the Austrian border".
One Pokrzywnica, population 350, is located east of Kielce. The other,
population 90, is north of Krakow.
