A few years ago I participated in two different surname research groups in
Belarus Archives at Minsk and Grodno. By pooling our funds and submitting our
surnames together to an onsite researcher, we were able to get information for a
lower cost than each could have with private research.
I would like to know if anyone is aware of such a project currently being
organized for research in Poland, specifically to Bielsk-Podlaski, Bialystok area?
The more I look into my maternal family >from Belarus (19th century), the more I
find references to the Bielsk area and I would like to learn whether that's
where they were before living in what is now Vysokoye, Belarus.
I have used JRI-Poland, but have not found the names I am seeking, specifically
my grandfather, Shmuel Ber DAJBOG son of Ovsei/Shea. But I have seen the
DAJBOG/DAIBOCH name in ships' manifests associated with Bielsk and have also
seen a related name, SOBEL(EVSKY) coming >from the same place.
I contacted a private research firm and learned that their minimum initial cost
comes to about $850.00 US plus additional travel fees and other expenses.
