My guess is that rings were passed down to the younger generation. Most Jews in
the Pale were so poor that it wouldn't surprise me that a gold wedding band was
less important than the equivalent value in food or fuel.

I have several photographs of great-grandparents >from several lines, as elderly
people, taken at various places in the Pale of Settlement. In none of them are the
figures wearing wedding rings. I wonder why?
