I recently submitted many research requests via USHMM in DC requesting
info re the Shoah fate of members of my family. USHMM was quick and
wonderfully helpful in their responses. But I'm confused and I'm
hoping that someone reading this might be able to offer clarification.
Several responses >from USHMM read as follows:
After an extensive search, we were unable to find any information on
*** in the International Tracing Service collection or in
other archival collections held by the United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum. If you wish to further your search, the following
organizations may also be of assistance: The American Red Cross
Holocaust and War Victim Tracing Center. Please contact your local Red
Cross chapter to start a search request. The American Red Cross can
contact Red Cross societies in other countries, which often have
access to resources unavailable in the Museum.
I thought the ITS and Red Cross worked together and one request form
was sufficient???? Has anyone worked directly with the Red Cross and
if so how does one do this?
Can anyone clarify? If you think it might help others, please respond
publicly. Otherwise, private replies please.
