Why is saying thank you often overlooked? #general

I don't agree with some of the other posters.

Getting a thank you is nice but it isn't why we do the research for others.
The thank you is just the frosting on the cake. The cake is that great
feeling "we" get as genealogists in being able to help someone find his
roots or whatever. I know that's what I feel.
