Re: Boston, Mass. department store question #general

The Bradlees that was acquired by Stop and Shop was a grocery store, not a
department store. I got to Boston in late 1967, a little later than the referenced
date. I recall a department store downtown, essentially across the street >from
Filene's (Filene's was a whole store, the Basement was merely the "sale annex"),
but I am unable to remember the name of that local department store. Perhaps
someone else can with this note as a memory jogger.

Bradlee's may be unlikely; the first store opened in Connecticut in 1958 and the
chain was acquired by Stop & Shop in 1961.

New information is that a relative named Marvin GORE visited the Boston
relatives almost fifty years ago (1960s), and says, "I think I recall that they
owned a department store, Freddlies or something like that." The closest I can
come to this, in researching names of defunct Boston department stores, is
Bradlees.
