Sources for Information on Family Before and During the Shoah #general
Subject: sources for information on family before and during the Shoah
Sabena Stark wrote asking for information on archives containing
Shoah survivior's oral testimony other than Yad Vashem.
The Holocaust Media Project, founded in 1983 by the late Lani Silver
and my life partner, R. Ruth Linden, Ph.D, was the predecessor of the
Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project (BAHOHP) in San Francisco.
Beginning in 1981, oral histories of survivors >from around the world
were recorded at various locations including at an American Gathering
of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in the early '80's. Silver and Linden
later consulted with Stephen Spielberg in 1994 when he founded his
Holocaust oral history project, The Shoah Foundation.
BAHOHP retained a recording of each interview and sent a copy to the
United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. Each interviewee
also received a copy of their interview. BAHOHP then merged with the
Holocaust Center of Northern California (HCNC. http://www.hcnc.org/.
R. Ruth Linden, Ph.D. donated copies of the original Holocaust Media
Project archives (1981-1984) to Yad Vashem in September, 2007 through
the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco. I do not know whether these
copies have been catalogued by Yad Vashem and made available to the
public yet, however.
