Does anyone know where I can find more information about insane
asylums in 19th century Poland? I'm trying to find locations,
when they were established, the types of conditions they treated,
what they charged, the kinds of therapy they used -- as many
details as possible.
I know that in the shtetl mental illness was a source of shame,
something to be concealed, so I want to get a sense of how people
coped, whether if they had the means, they sent the afflicted
person away to an asylum, how this all impacted the family. If
anyone has either facts or stories, I would be greatly appreciative.
Thank you in advance.
