Saving a synagogue in Ostrow Wielkopolski (Ostrowo) Poland #general

Victoria Barkoff

I recently learned >from Jaroslav Biernaczyk, the historian of Ostrow
Wielkopolski, that the dedication of the renovated Synagogue building,
used by the Nazis as a furniture warehouse, will take place on October
6. The building, which recently won the national Facade of the Year
award in Poland, will serve as a cultural centre. The presence of
descendants of former Jewish residents of Ostrow Wielkopolski
(formerly Ostrowo, Posen) would be most welcome at the ceremony.

In addition to renovating the synagogue, the City of Ostrow
Wielkopolski has created a memorial wall >from excavated fragments of
matzevot, and Mr. Biernaczyk has edited two volumes of essays on the
former Jewish community.

For further information on the New Synagogue building and the
renovation project, see:

If you are interested in attending the ceremony, or sending a letter
of appreciation or congratulations, please write to me for contact
information.
