Re: Missing for the 1920 and 1930 Census - where to look? #general

Hi Allan,

I have no idea if this is relevant in your case; however I have the
following story:

Someone whose address was definitely known did not appear in the 1930
census; however several of their near relatives did appear at that address.
After some investigation, it turned out that these "missing persons" lived
in the attic, which was against some ordinance. So the family obviously did
not report this to the census-taker.

In your case, I might ask if the Funeral Parlor was in an area zoned for
business, so that your family's dwelling in the same structure might have
been illegal.

I am stuck against a brick wall in the 1920 and 1930 Census. I am looking
for a family who vanishes after the 1910 Census. Its not possible that they
moved away, etc. because I know of marriages, a business, etc. that were all
in the local area. They loved basically on the same street corner >from the
1880s to at least the 1920s and then moved only a few blocks over where some
of them were till at least 1956.

But I can not find them in the 1920 and 1930 census. Maybe someone has
another idea for me?...
