I have been given a series of letters written by relatives of mine in Poland
to other relatives in Palestine in the 1930s. The letters were originally
in Yiddish but my Israeli cousins had them translated into Hebrew and I am
having them translated >from Hebrew to English.
In one letter written in 1933, there is a reference to a currency that my
translator has translated as "funt." >from the context I gather that this
refers to currency used in Palestine. A quick internet search reveals that
the currency of Mandate Palestine was the British pound. Could this "funt"
be a Yiddish rendering of the word pound?
Thanks for any help.
