Photos from the Trove: Costumes, Places, Dates, Lenz #general
Dear All,
Following my recent resounding success with the help of this wonderful Group ("Emil COLEMAN, New York Band Leader") I have been sent some lovely photos of great-aunts, great-uncles, possible great-grandparents and a few mystery guests. I have now posted four of these photos to View Mate, with some quite tricky questions. Can you help? 1. http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=22738. Thought to be dated 1910, the lower right corner reads "Lenz". Is this a place and, if so, where? (The photo is sent to a family who had moved >from Moscow and Warsaw to London) 2. http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=22739 paired with http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=22740 These photos should be viewed together. I suspect they are of either my great uncle's parents (my great grandparents) or my great-aunt's parents. Possibly the lady's style of dress would help to date these photos. (I'm hoping >from c.1885). Can anyone tell? Secondly, the photo(s) may have been taken in Warsaw/Poland or in Palanga/Russia-now-Lithuania. Long shot but perhaps the fashion styles were sufficiently distinct and someone has a photo with identical styling that would point me towards one location rather than the other - they are some 450 miles apart? 3. http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=22741 Taken in London, c.1902 of my great uncle and his family. Looking at the young boy's boots you can spot that he had uncles who were bootmakers! My question: what do you make of the boys' costumes? Are these >from their Moscow roots? Answers to any of the above gratefully received - of if you know of an "expert" I might contact, please let me know.
